Haven't done yoga before?
That's exactly why you're here.
Many people think they need to be flexible, young, or already experienced to join a yoga retreat in Bali. At Serenity Bali, we believe the exact opposite. Yoga is not about touching your toes; it’s about what you learn on the way down.
Whether you’ve never stepped on a mat before or you’re looking to rebuild your foundation, our open-air healing spaces provide a low-pressure, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace.
Our teachers specialize in breaking down poses, adapting classes for every body type, and creating a judgment-free space. Surrounded by Bali’s tropical beauty, you’ll find it easier to let go, breathe deeply, and simply begin.
“I’m not flexible enough” — Flexibility develops through practice, not before it.
“I’m too old to start” — We welcome practitioners from ages 18 to 70+.
“I’ll look stupid” — Small, supportive class sizes ensure personal attention.
“It’s too hard for me” — Every pose comes with beginner-friendly modifications. Always.
“I don’t know the terms” — Our introductory orientation covers everything you need to know.

Essential Guide Every Beginner Yoga Needs to Know
No experience is necessary. However, there are a few simple things worth knowing so your first day on the mat feels comfortable, safe, and enjoyable from the very beginning.
01
You Don't Need to Be Flexible
Yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. If a posture feels uncomfortable or painful, it is 100% okay to back off. Your instructor will always offer modifications (easier variations) for every pose.
02
Practice on an Empty Stomach
Try to avoid eating a heavy meal at least 2 hours before your class. Yoga involves twists and inversions, which are much more comfortable when your digestion is at rest. Staying hydrated beforehand is highly recommended!
03
Hydrate From the Morning
Bali is warm and humid year-round. Drink at least 500ml of water before class to maintain your energy and avoid dizziness during the session.
04
Arrive Early to Settle In
Aim to arrive at our shala 10–15 minutes before class starts. This gives you time to check in, find a spot for your mat, gather your props, and mentally transition into a calm state.
05
Silence Your Phone
Give yourself full presence for 60–90 minutes. Let family or colleagues know you're on retreat so interruptions don't pull you out of the experience.
06
Tell Your Teacher It's Your First Time
Don't be shy about it. Our teachers will give you extra attention and make sure every pose is safe and aligned for your body from day one.
