From Aerial to Yin: How to Choose the Right Yoga Class for Your Mood Today

At Serenity Eco Guesthouse, yoga isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each day brings a different mood, energy level, and intention, and your practice should meet you exactly where you are. That’s why Serenity uses a simple and intuitive system to classify every yoga class by movement pace: slow, neutral, or dynamic.
Whether you’re feeling calm, curious, energised, or somewhere in between, this system makes it easy to choose the class that best supports how you feel today.
Feeling Calm or Needing to Slow Down? Choose a Slow Class
If your body is asking for rest, grounding, or deep release, a slow class is your best match.
Yin yoga, for example, sits in this category. Yin involves very little movement, with poses held for three minutes or longer. Instead of using muscular effort (as in Yang styles of yoga), Yin relies on gravity and time to gently stretch the deeper connective tissues. This practice encourages introspection, patience, and surrender, making it a beautiful complement to meditation and mindfulness. It’s especially beneficial if you’re feeling stiff, overstimulated, or in need of emotional release.

Other slow-paced offerings at Serenity include:
Restorative Yoga, where the body is fully supported by props to allow complete relaxation and nervous system recovery
Yin Sound Healing, Harmonic Yin, and Yin & Sound Bath, which combine long-held postures with healing sound vibrations
5 Elements of Yin, inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, aligning movement with the natural elements and energies within the body
These classes are all designed around stillness and release, enhanced by tools such as crystal bowls, gongs, and other instruments that create immersive soundscapes, guiding you inward and helping the mind soften along with your body.
Go for Dynamic if you’re seeking Energy, Strength, or Sweat
On days when you’re feeling energised, motivated, or craving movement, dynamic classes are the way to go. These practices are faster-paced, more physically demanding, and designed to build strength, stamina, and heat. But also, attending these classes on days that you feel less energised can give you an energy boost.
Dynamic classes at Serenity range from Vinyasa Flow to Power Yoga. While each class has its own flavour, they share a common thread: continuous flow and an emphasis on linking breath with movement. You’ll move through poses rather than holding them for long periods, often leaving class sweaty, uplifted, and invigorated.
If you’re looking for something playful and a little outside the box, classes like Aerial Yoga and Creative Vinyasa offer a chance to explore movement in new ways. These unpredictable and fun practices invite curiosity and courage, often surprising you with what your body is capable of. You may find yourself floating, balancing, or transitioning into poses you never imagined you could do.

Somewhere in Between? Try a Neutral Class
Not every day calls for deep stillness or high intensity. Neutral classes bridge the gap, offering a balanced pace that adapts to where your body is at. These classes are energising without the high impact route to get there.
An example is Yogi’s chakra flow, where he starts the class with breathing exercises (pranayama) to get you in the mood for the rest of the class that will leave you centred, and zen. There is still flow but at a slower pace and not as dynamic as other classes, especially if concentrating on the root chakra to create grounding or the heart chakra to cultivate emotional balance.
Another neutral class is Quino’s Fundamental Arm Balance Class, where you’re guided to explore strength, technique, and awareness without pressure.
These classes meet you at your edge, encouraging progress while honouring your limits. Neutral classes are ideal if you want to feel challenged but not depleted.
If you want to try something new, Kundalini, a class like no other, with its unique breath to movement techniques that leave you elated. This class is neutral but can vary. It is different from other yoga classes so it is hard to compare the pace. The class is structured with repeated movements combined with strong breathing techniques, there is a chanting section, and a cool down with shivassana. Kundalini aims to raise the serpent energy from your root.
Let Your Mood Be Your Guide
The beauty of Serenity’s pace-based system is that it removes guesswork. Instead of asking “What kind of yoga should I do?”, you can simply ask yourself “How do I feel today?”
By listening to your body and choosing a class that aligns with your energy, yoga becomes not just a practice, but a form of self-care, balance, and connection. From aerial to yin, there’s always a class waiting to support exactly what you need.
